For Marie-Noëlle Albert, the paradigm of complexity is not an ornamental reference. It is an explicit pivot: she mobilizes its operators by name, she co-edited an entire thematic issue devoted to it, and she belongs to the international network that spreads this thinking.
The practical consequence is easy to state and hard to hold: simple answers to complex problems are refused, including when they are convenient.
The operators
The network
A transdisciplinary scholarly network devoted to spreading Edgar Morin’s complexity thinking, born of a meeting between Edgar Morin and Régis Meissonier in March 2019. Marie-Noëlle Albert is listed by name among the network’s members; the network devoted a video portrait to her.
A distinction that matters
A member — not a founding member. The network calls its members “reliantes” and “reliants”.
The founding members are Edgar Morin, Jean-Louis Le Moigne, Roland Pérez, Philippe Guiliani, Stéphane Guilbert and some twenty other researchers. Marie-Noëlle Albert is listed among the members of the network, as is her colleague Nadia Lazzari Dodeler. This site therefore never presents her as a founder.
A further distinction
The word reliance appears in the name of the network, and in the title of one of her 2021 articles. No publication in her corpus is, however, devoted to the concept of reliance as such.
Her contributions
Both texts are taken up in Éditoriaux en pensée complexe, the collective book of the network published by L’Harmattan in 2023.
Edgar Morin et le paradigme de la complexité
The opening text of the issue, “Simplicité et complexité des crises à la lumière du paradigme de la complexité d'Edgar Morin”, applies the paradigm to contemporary crises. It is in open access.
