Marie-Noëlle Albert

First manage, then research

The order matters. Marie-Noëlle Albert led teams for about ten years before entering the university. This is not a biographical detail: it is the reason why the question of the validity of knowledge drawn from experience runs through the whole of her work.

The starting point

2007

L'engagement revisité à l'aide du concept du « soi » : expérience d'une entreprise familiale de la grande distribution

The starting point of the entire architecture. Nearly sixty semi-structured interviews conducted in four stores of a group of independent retailers, supplemented by observations and documents. The thesis builds a four-phase framework — research design, empirical collection, construction of local knowledge, then construction and dissemination of generic knowledge — and already sets out what will run through the later work: the "self" is relational; internal and external commitment reinforce each other recursively; recognition and the meaning given to work prevent disengagement.
